Building Regulations - Part L (England & Wales)

Reducing DER Carbon Dioxide Emission Levels

To a large extent, successful compliance with Part L relies on reducing the DER carbon dioxide emission level. Practical steps on how to achieve this using electric heating are listed under the SAP (see: Building Regulations > SAP) section of this website.

Part L Compliance Issues To Consider

The minimum functional and performance requirements for electric heating systems under the actual Part L1A regulations states:

Reasonable provision shall be made for the conservation of fuel and power in buildings by:

  1. limiting
    1. heat losses through the fabric of the building
    2. excessive solar gains; and
    3. heat gains and losses from pipes, ducts and vessels used for space heating, space cooling and hot water storage
  2. providing energy efficient and properly commissioned fixed building services with effective controls
  3. provide to the owner sufficient information about the building and its building services so that the building can be operated and maintained in such a manner so as to use no more fuel and power than is reasonable in the circumstances.

Dimplex electric heating can be considered to meet these requirements and provide building designers with additional benefit in the following ways:

Minimum Requirements For Electric Heating Systems

The minimum functional and performance requirements for electric heating systems under Part L are listed in the Part L Domestic Heating Compliance Guide.
