Air tightness

Air leakage from buildings is a significant cause of heat loss and infact the new regulations state that an air permeability limit of 10m3/m2/hr@50Pa be achieved and demonstrated by mandatory sample pressure testing.

A significant cause of air leakage are the number of building services such as pipes, ducts and holes which penetrate the building fabric and are insufficiently sealed to prevent unnecessary air leakage.

Electric heating systems require no pipework or flues to penetrate the building shell and therefore allowing a high level of air tightness to be achieved more easily.
