Funding programme - SCHRI - Programme funding

Three streams of grant funding are available:

1. Householders

Homeowners can qualify for grants worth up to 30% of the cost of installing a renewable technology system, up to a maximum of £4,000.

A household can qualify for up to two grants, provided they are for different technologies, however installation must be designed, installed and commissioned by an installer that is either fully or provisionally accredited.

The SCHRI website also includes a 10 step guide to help applicants with the grant application process.

2. Community Groups

Two types of grants are available for communities:

Technical Grants

Up to 100% of the cost of non-capital projects to a maximum of £10,000.

Funding is available for:

  • part or all of the costs associated with feasibility studies or community consultation;
  • support for your staff to develop a proposal;
  • capacity building (renewable energy awareness raising, training and skills development).

Capital Grants

Up to 100% of the capital cost of a project to a maximum of £100,000.

Funding is available for:

  • installing renewable energy generation plant;
  • supporting infrastructure, such as roads;
  • project management costs for developing and installing generating equipment;
  • your community establishing a partnership with a third party such as a developer, or setting up a new company or purchasing an equity share in an existing company;
  • putting into place regulations that encourage renewable energy generation or use (such as metering equipment, licences or Renewable Obligation Certificates).

3. Builders / Developers

To help encourage the installation of renewable energy technologies in new housing developments, SCHRI allows builders, developers and architects to apply for grants on behalf of future owners of houses they are building.

This applies to small companies building one-off homes, and to larger volume developers building multiple properties in the one development.
