Guidance to the Design of Electric Space and Water Heating Systems It is important that the design of electric heating systems is considered carefully and responsibly in order to ensure satisfactory performance and economic operation, Documents DOM 8 (Guidance to the Design of Electric Space Heating Systems) and DOM 9 (Guidance to the Design of Electric Water Heating Systems) were originally published by the Electricity Council to provide guidance to specifiers and designers of electric heating systems, predominantly the Regional Electricity Companies at the time. While the technologies incorporated in electric heating products has evolved over time, not least in the area of controls, as well as improvements in the thermal characteristics of buildings, the fundamental principles on which these documents are based continue to ensure that electric heating and hot water systems are able to provide high levels of thermal comfort and controllability while minimizing running costs. At the request of DEFRA, these documents have recently been updated by TEHVA (The Electric Heating and Ventilation Association) to include guidance on the design all modern forms of electric heating systems, including:
